WWE is teaming with Mattel and Toys R Us to benefit Make-A-Wish with a custom John Cena action figure.
The action figure — which will be available exclusively at Toys R Us stores nationwide beginning Aug. 15 — was designed with input by Alex, a Make-A-Wish kid from Los Angeles. The pre-sale begins today, July 11, at toysrus.com, and runs until Monday, July 31. Mattel will donate a portion of the proceeds to support Make-A-Wish.
Alex worked with WWE and Mattel to design a custom stars-and-stripes version of Cena. The WWE Superstar has granted more than 500 wishes and is the most popular celebrity wish granter in the organization’s history.
“Having the opportunity to meet Alex and witness first-hand his vision behind the action figure was an incredible experience,” Cena said. “There is nothing more humbling than a child who could ask for anything in the world asking to meet me, and I will continue to grant wishes as long as I am asked.”
David Williams, Make-A-Wish America president and CEO, expressed his excitement to see three corporate sponsors join forces to support wish-granting.
“At Make-A-Wish, we have heard over and over again how wishes have the power to bring families and communities closer together for the better,” Williams said. “This is a case where wishes have inspired three of our sponsors to work collaboratively to bring the life-affirming nature of a wish to more wish kids, and we could not be more excited.”
Toys R Us will also host a social media fundraising initiative to benefit Make-A-Wish America, with the company donating $1, up to $25,000, for every retweet or share of their #GivingIsAwesome posts.
