WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon and WWE COO Triple H took part in the March of Dimes New York's 34th Annual Sports Luncheon In New York City on Giving Tuesday 2017, Nov. 28. WWE is the “Fund the Mission Sponsor" of the March of Dimes Sports Luncheon, which brings the sports and sports media communities together to support the organization's mission – the fight against birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
At the Sports Luncheon, Stephanie announced that WWE will match 100 percent of the amount raised through the Fund the Mission Moment. WWE Superstars, including Braun Strowman, Raw Women's Champion Alexa Bliss and Raw Tag Team Champion Cesaro, surprised the more than 800 guests in attendance to help encourage donations alongside NBC News' Lester Holt, ESPN's Jessica Mendoza and March of Dimes Mission Ambassador Shelly Steinwurtzel.
For nearly 80 years, the March of Dimes has worked to help babies and children have healthy lives and is leading the fight to end premature child birth. Throughout its 34-year history, the Sports Luncheon has raised more than $14 million. According to Sports Business Journal Daily, the 2017 Sports Luncheon raised a record $1.17 million, including $222,000 at the event itself.
2017 March of Dimes Honorees/Award Recipients include:
- Corporate Leadership Award: Dawn Hudson, EVP and CMO, National Football League
- Sports Leadership Award: David Baker, President and CEO, Pro Football Hall of Fame
- Sportswoman of the Year Award: Simone Biles, Olympic Gymnast (Rio 2016)
- Sports Legend Award: Ron Darling, Baseball Analyst, SNY/Turner Sports/MLB Network
