WWE Superstars Ted DiBiase and Lilian Garcia took part in the LOPen Celebrity Golf Event this past weekend, helping to raise money for the Akron Children’s Hospital.
During their time working with the charity, the pair visited patients in the hospital, bringing the kids WWE toys and, more importantly, smiles. It was a moving experience for both of them.
“For those few minutes that we spend with these kids, they get to forget about [being in the hospital],” DiBiase said. “They get to think about something else. It brings them hope.”
“They’re the real champions,” Garcia said.
Joining the Superstars at the event were a wide array of professional athletes, celebrities and musicians. Super Bowl-winning quarterback Jim McMahon, Cleveland Browns quarterback Brandon Weeden, Aaron Lewis of Staind and former WWE Diva Candice Michelle were some of the names who helped out this great cause.
One of the highlights of the weekend was an auction. Those in attendance put in bids to sponsor two families from the hospital on a one-of-a-kind trip to WWE Monday Night Raw when it comes to Cleveland this Sept. The response was unbelievable, according to Garcia.
“We raised $12,500 for each family, so we raised $25,000 that two people paid to have these families come to see WWE,” she explained. “They’re not even going themselves!”
In addition to taking in WWE’s live weekly extravaganza, the families will also get to go backstage for a meet-and-greet with WWE Superstars.
A replica World Heavyweight Championship was also auctioned off for $8,000.
“We raised $33,000 in a matter of 10 minutes, it was crazy,” Garcia said.
