Co-founders of the anti-bullying initiative Be a STAR, The Creative Coalition and WWE, announced that Wednesday, Oct. 12, will be Global Be a STAR Day in support of National Bullying Prevention Month. Be a STAR’s (Show Tolerance And Respect) 47 alliance members, made up of leading national service and community organizations including GLAAD and STOMP Out Bullying, are encouraging educators, school administrators, students, parents, caregivers and other concerned citizens to log onto beastaralliance.org to:
- Take the official Be a STAR pledge
- Download the Be a STAR free anti-bullying teacher’s aide
- Register for a Be a STAR chapter toolkit.
“We're proud to use the voice of the arts to champion what is good for society. And, there's nothing good that bullies bring to society. Entertainment and the arts have a unique and powerful platform that The Creative Coalition and WWE are galvanizing to stand up to bullies,” said Robin Bronk, CEO of The Creative Coalition and co-founder of Be a STAR.
Be a STAR materials are designed to encourage everyone to get involved and support the alliance’s mission, which is to ensure a positive and equitable social environment for everyone regardless of age, race, religion or sexual orientation through grassroots efforts beginning with education and awareness. By taking the pledge, people around the world are vowing to help stop bullying and to support a bully-free environment. Additionally, Be a STAR supports educators by providing a free teacher’s aide as a curriculum supplement or as a stand-alone resource to teach children how to treat others equitably and to prevent bullying. The aide, which aligns with National Education Standards, was created by NEA’s Health Information Network and Education Consultant Dr. Fran Prolman. Be a STAR also provides toolkits for kids, schools, and communities to create their own Be a STAR chapter.
Be a STAR is being promoted through WWE, as well as through The Creative Coalition’s arts and entertainment industry networks. In addition, WWE Superstars and Divas will be in Mexico the week of Oct. 12, visiting local schools and promoting Be a STAR to spread the anti-bullying message globally and help put an end to this epidemic. Be a STAR alliance members are promoting this day to their members and constituencies.
